Update:
BLOOMFIELD, Connecticut (WTHR) – Cigna Health Insurance Company and the drug compensation company, Express Scripts, have launched a program to limit insulin fees to $ 25 per 30-day prescription.
The patient's insurance program is available to Cigna members in non-government funded pharmacy factories managed by Express Scripts.
According to Cigna, the average cost for clients with insulin regimes managed by Express Scripts rose to $ 41.50 for a 30-day supply in 2018.
"For people with diabetes, insulin can be as essential as air," said Steve Miller, executive vice president of Cigna. "We need to make sure these people feel safe in their ability to offer all the full so they do not miss a dose."
The cost to the charge includes deductibles, copays or insurance. The insurance company said that in most cases, patients would benefit from reduced costs without increasing the plan premium.
According to Miller, the new program will remove at least one hurdle, the cost, for people on a diet who need insulin.
