According to the Liberal Party of Ghana, allowing the president to appoint regional ministers will complicate their task of accountability to the people, but to the president.

Akpaloo said the regional ministers would not consider accountability to the people, but only to the president, their allegiance "being reserved for the government in power".

"We are proposing that regional ministers be elected by the people, which will go a long way towards strengthening democracy in Ghana," he said.
