City was beaten by the Wolves on penalties in the final of the Premier League Asia Trophy in Shanghai.

A hard-fought game in tough conditions ended on a 0-0 score after 90 minutes, with City losing 3-2 in a shootout.

What happened

City should have been early after 20 minutes. Leroy Sane was shot down by Adama Traore after showing a good pace to clear, but Raheem Sterling dominated the pbad.

A good spoon after Sterling and De Bruyne saw Sane released, but his efforts were expanded to the far post.

Sterling probably should have done much better with an end-to-end attempt, moments later, but he failed to make decent contact after a good job from Danilo on the right.

The wolves improved after the break, while Diogo Jota and Joao Moutinho are getting closer to each other, but the team began to get tired as the heat increased as the evening was progressing.

City's best efforts in the second half helped Rui Patricio get David Silva's magnificent curling free kick, but the ball went to the top corner.

The shooting saw City fail three times – Ilkay Gundogan, David Silva and Lukas Nmecha all failed in their conversion, and it was the Wolves who brought the trophy back to England.

Match time

The gesture of Kevin De Bruyne in the air followed by a cross pbad in half-volley, directly to Leroy Sane.

It was a moment of pure clbad and a reminder, if it was needed, of the infallible accuracy of the man with a football.

Statzone

City had a huge possession of 66%.
