By 6 votes to 4, the board approved the senior concession contract for food, beverages and retail with Paradies Lagardère at the San Antonio International Airport. Council member Roberto Treviño introduced the motion to exclude the Atlanta-based chicken chain from the airport from the airport.

Chick-fil-A has a long history of donating to anti-LGBTQ organizations. The city's vote was applauded by the Stonewall Democrats in San Antonio, a local LGBTQ political action committee, KSAT reported.

"The LGBTQ community is delighted that the city council has decided to look for restaurants that support all Americans at our airport," Chris Forbrich, co-chair of the organization, told television.

Treviño issued a statement Friday, saying the decision "reaffirmed the work our city has done to become a champion of equality and inclusion".

"San Antonio is a city full of compbadion and we have no place in our public facilities for a company with a legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior," Treviño said. "Everyone has their place here, and everyone should feel welcome when crossing our airport.I look forward to the announcement of the appropriate replacement by Paradies."

Chick-fil-A issued a statement, calling the action "disappointing".

"This is the first time we've heard about it. It's disappointing. We would have liked to have a dialogue with the city council before this decision was made, "the company said in its statement. "We agree with Council member Treviño that everyone is and should feel welcome at Chick-fil-A. We plan to contact City Council to better understand this decision. "
