Cl Is the clash about Venezuelan aid political? | Al Jazeera English

Violent clashes erupted in the border towns of Venezuela, killing at least two people, while President Nicolas Maduro prevented humanitarian convoys from entering the country.
Soldiers loyal to Maduro on Saturday threw tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters who had tried to smuggle dozens of people into boxes of US-provided aid.
Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido, backed by Washington, backed aid-import efforts, saying hundreds of thousands of people were in dire need of food and medicine. Maduro considers help in the context of an American conspiracy to remove him from power.
Tom Long, a professor at the University of Warwick, who studies politics in Latin America, talks to Al Jazeera about the apparent conflict between aid and politics.
