Since the first two seasons of the Karate Kid spin-off Cobra Kai moved from YouTube Premium to Netflix last year, the series has become a phenomenon – and its reputation was only bolstered by the release of the third series. at the beginning of 2021..
A fourth edition of the series has already been ordered and the creators of the series have said they hope it can continue to function for a long time to come.
And now one of the co-showrunners, Hayden Schlossberg has revealed that there may be more spinoff series somewhere in the future.
Schlossberg announced that the hope is to continue to expand the Karate Kid universe, and he said there are many potential directions to explore.
“Our hope is that we can really expand the entire Karate Kid universe and reinvigorate the fan base, so it’s a story we can keep telling,” he told TVLine. “We have an endgame for Cobra Kai, but we always compare it to our other favorite show, Breaking Bad, [and how] they are able to continue the story with Better Call Saul and El Camino.
He added, “If you look at our careers, we’ve always had sequels. We fall in love with our characters. Each spin-off or deep dive permutation crosses our minds.
“Everything has to be the right thing, and it has to be of the same level of quality as Cobra Kai. Our minds always think of “Karate Kid”, so this possibility definitely exists. “
The show’s third series saw longtime enemies Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence finally unite in an effort to ward off the threat of John Kreese and his dojo – staging a tantalizing karate tournament in the fourth series.
And the series has been a treat with fans and critics alike, earning praise for striking the right balance between nostalgia for the original films and all-new storylines.
