The women workers of the Ghana Limited Coca Cola Bottling Company presented last Friday medical equipment and supplies worth 25,000 GH ¢ at La General Hospital in Accra.
Funds for the purchase of the items were mobilized through women's contributions to mark this year's International Women's Day, celebrated around the world on March 8th.
Items included blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, fetal doppler (used to monitor the heart rate of babies in the uterus) and bedside lockers. Others were soap dispensers, sheets, blankets and badorted Coca-Cola drinks.
At a brief presentation ceremony, Ms. Francoise Cleland, Human Resources Partner for Employee Relations, said the donation, intended to be used by the service of women and children of the hospital , was performed as a result of the demand badessment of the Coca Cola workers.
"The women of Coca Cola Bottling, in collaboration with the management, wish to present this medical equipment to the mothers and babies of La General Hospital.
We are very, very concerned about the empowerment of women and for this reason we came to make donations to the community and to women, "she said.
Dr. Ebenezer Oduro-Mensah, Medical Director of La General Hospital, received the equipment on behalf of the management and staff, thanked the workers for this kind gesture and said the donation had been done at the right time.
"Thank you very much for thinking of The General Hospital. We know that we are far enough away from you. Still, you think of us and you have decided to donate this essential equipment. We are therefore grateful to help provide comfort to patients. "
