The American teenage sensation Coco Gauff continued its momentum by joining the main draw of the Washington Open with a dominant victory in qualifying.
Gauff, 15, needed only one hour and five minutes to beat Japanese Hiroko Kuwata in a 6-1 6-2 victory.
It will be his third appearance in the WTA main draw after Miami and Wimbledon.
After her exploits in SW19, where she beat Venus Williams to qualify for the last 16, Gauff's qualifier was watched by an almost-sold-out crowd in the US capital.
And she received a standing ovation after winning a magnificent cross-court winner against Kuwata, 28.
Now ranked 143rd in the world after her success at the All England Club, Gauff did not know if she would even qualify in Washington because she had to use her standings before Wimbledon, the 313rd, to access it.
The Washington Open, a WTA / ATP combined event, is one of the hottest US swing events on hard ground, culminating in the US Open next month.
Gauff is the youngest woman to reach the second week of Wimbledon since Jennifer Capriati in 1991.
