Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) Managing Director (CEO) Joseph Boahen Aidoo visited two base schools in the Ahafo region to celebrate this year’s chocolate week with pupils and students.
Speaking separately to students and pupils of the Basic Schools of the Municipal Assembly of Boaso and Twewaho (M / A) near Duayaw-Nkwanta in the municipality of Tano North of the region, Mr. Aidoo listed the socio-economic importance of cocoa to the nation and health benefits. of chocolate to children.
He said that cocoa was very important for the country as it provided food, income, jobs and industrial raw materials, adding in addition to providing livelihoods to many farmers, cocoa also provided raw materials to the multi-billion dollar global chocolate industry.
Mr. Aidoo handed out chocolate to schoolchildren and stressed that “it greatly helps in the fight against cardiovascular disease and improves children’s intelligence”.
He explained that Valentine’s Day had been named “Chocolate Day” in Ghana to encourage the consumption of more chocolate and other locally produced cocoa products.
COCOBOD CEO urged school children to wear their nasal masks everywhere, especially in public places, wash their hands regularly with soap under running water and also follow all other guidelines and protocols against the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Boaso M / A Basic School Girls’ Prefect Kadijatu Musah expressed on behalf of the schoolchildren his gratitude to COCOBOD for the affection shown by including them in the national celebration of chocolate week this year.
