Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Executive Director of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), invited attendees to the Cocoa Validation Workshop that has just completed in Accra to be ambbadadors for cocoa consumption. and promote it wherever they are.

Mr Boahen Aidoo said that if at least 50% of Ghana's cocoa production could be processed, it was important for participants to be at the forefront of the cocoa consumption campaign.

He stressed that Ghanaians should take advantage of the benefits of cocoa consumption for health and nutrition, adding that Ghana can not lose the benefits of cocoa as long as it produces high quality cocoa.

He expressed concern about the low cocoa consumption per capita, 0.52 kg for Ghana, compared to about 8 kg for some Western countries.

He noted that, in addition to the health and nutritional benefits of cocoa consumption, Ghana would have everything to gain when new markets, such as China, India and some parts of Africa, are created to develop the taste of cocoa and increase its income.

"Asking China and India to conserve cocoa in Ghana would be a huge market opportunity to increase incomes and at the same time be a good incentive to develop the industry," he said. declared.

He added that the cocoa validation workshop should finalize the Cocoa Sector Development Strategy II (CSDS II) document and urged all stakeholders to take ownership of it for effective implementation.
