Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) Managing Director Joseph Boahen Aidoo said his team was recruiting 50,000 people to participate in a nationwide cocoa rehabilitation exercise.

According to him, around 30,000 people had already been hired for hand pollination, while 48,000 others had been hired for mass spraying of cocoa.

Interacting with the media this weekend in Abesim, near Sunyani, during a visit to the Bono region, Aidoo said the cocoa sector contributes to a substantial aspect of the country’s gross domestic product and that Cocoa products also had huge health benefits.

“Cocoa has a significant impact on blood circulation and improves cognitive intelligence,” he said, and advised Ghanaians to consume more cocoa products in order to strengthen their immune systems against disease.

Mr Aidoo said Ghana produces the highest quality cocoa beans hence the need for the nation to invest heavily and make the sector a catalyst to expand the country’s foreign income.
