The National Election Observers Coalition (CODEO) will deploy observers today, Thursday, January 31, 2019, for the by-election of the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency to be organized by the Electoral Commission.

CODEO reported that it deployed a total of 30 observers to observe randomly selected polling stations in the constituencies of the constituency.

The seat of the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon became vacant following the death of the deputy of the new patriotic party in the district, Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko.

The by-election takes place despite a lawsuit from the NDC's president of the NDC constituency, which challenges the date of January 31, 2018 set by the Electoral Commission for the by-election.

"Observers will follow the voting day processes, such as the opening of polling stations, the availability of recording equipment and the operation of biometric equipment. They will also observe the behavior of election officials and other stakeholders, as well as the respect of election rules, said a statement from the coalition.

CODEO also reminded all stakeholders, in particular political parties, the electoral commission, polling officials, voters and the general public, "to strive to preserve the integrity of the polling stations. The Coalition will share its findings on the exercise with the public. "

Although the electoral commission declared itself ready to conduct a transparent poll, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the opposition, was already shouting scandal, accusing the EC of frustrating the party.

In total, three people; Lydia Esinam Alhbadan of the New Patriotic Party, Delali Kwasi Brempong representing the National Democratic Congress, and William Dowokpor, candidate of the Progressive People's Party, are contesting the elections.

CODEO as an entity is mandated to promote free, fair and transparent elections to prevent electoral fraud. It is also to encourage citizen participation in elections.

The coalition also played a role in promoting thematic campaigns and enhancing the credibility of the election results.
