Case closed is an investigative murder mystery thriller with supernatural themes. After starting streaming on Amazon Prime Video from the end of the night of June 2021, the first reviews are underway and the film has received mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. Cold Case movie review: Prithviraj Sukumaran and Aditi Balan’s Spooky Mystery Thriller is bogged down by predictable twists.

Case closed is about an investigation into the macabre discovery of a skull found near a river, led by ACP Satyajith (Prithviraj Sukumaran), tasked with identifying the corpse and its killer. In another location, TV presenter and single mother Medha (Aditi Balan) is frightened by some haunted events in her new rented house. (Warning: FRONT SPOILERS).

These two threads become entangled when Medha realizes that the spirit that haunts her house, or rather the refrigerator in the house, is that of Eva Maria (Athmiya Rajan), the same person whose death is the subject of a survey by Satyajith. Towards the end, we find out who killed this rich, orphan and divorced woman and what is happening to her. And how Eva isn’t the only ghost to haunt Medha’s family.

Killer Revelation!

It turns out that Eva was killed by her lawyer friend Haritha (Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli), who was also Medha’s friend. Haritha, who was in desperate need of money, strangles her friend to death one night and cuts off her body for easy disposal. In order for her to get her hands on Eva’s properties and savings, Haritha begins to pretend to be her. Cold Case Song Eeran Mukil Out! The slow melody of Prithviraj Sukumaran and Aditi Balan takes you on a mysterious journey.

Since Eva was divorced and had no living family to speak of, all Haritha had to do was maintain the cunning that Eva is alive. She uses Eva’s phone to send messages to her friends and acquaintances from time to time. She creates a fake Aadhar identity for Eva by using her photo to sell her properties. Haritha even goes to Varanasi under the pretext that Eva is embarking on a spiritual journey and taking photos of the temples there, before disposing of the phone and proposing the ruse that Eva has weaned herself from social media.

Watch the trailer:

This is where things go wrong. Haritha had planned to run away with her money, but due to the lockdown of the first wave of COVID-19, she was forced to return to Kerala under her assumed name. She had also used her photo to sell Eva’s properties, so Satyajith understood what she looked like, as her uncle who was on the same bus as her – a coincidence there – saw her later in a lawyer dress in the High Court. However, before Satyajith can get her arrested, Haritha gets a very gruesome reward for what she has done.

Haritha’s fate

Haritha, after realizing that Medha might discover her bloody work, goes to her house when she is meeting Satyajith. Going through her files, Medha is shocked by the clicking of the refrigerator. It was her own refrigerator, where she had kept Eva’s body parts before throwing them away, then sold the refrigerator to a thrift store, and it was then sold to the owner of Haritha’s house.

Haritha has no idea that the refrigerator is now possessed by her victim’s spirit, and we don’t know why this terrible shake and the infiltration of blood doesn’t scare her off the scene. She opens the refrigerator to find the body parts wrapped in plastic. Before she opens them, the screen moves outside the house and we hear her scream.

Supernatural vs pragmatism

Haritha’s body is discovered at home the next day, and medical reports claim she died of a propane leak from the refrigerator. Medha knew it wasn’t, and she asks Satyajith if he now believes his house is haunted.

Satyajith, who has not encountered any paranormal events, tells her that what she has to say may be true, but he wants to believe in the logical side and sees Hartiha’s death as a result of the accidental explosion. The conflict here is a symbolization of Case closedThe two-pronged approach to solving the mystery – one, through a proper investigative procedure, and the other through otherworldly clues. However, unlike unconscious PCA, we know what really happened. I wish the movie had remained ambiguous instead, so that this conflict could have been of better value.

The bait of the sequel

As with films of this genre, Case closed ends with a consecutive bait scene. Remember how the movie tried to mislead us into thinking that the doll Medha’s daughter was playing with was meant to be the harbinger of the spirit at the Annabelle? Well that turned out to be wrong, when the refrigerator turned out to be the culprit. But the last scene gave us the impression that the doll is not all innocent. And pretty scary too, without one of his eyes!

The final scene shows Medha and her daughter in her mother’s house, where the child sings to the doll, as the camera turns to Medha trying to adjust the frequency of her transistor before moving on to portray her deceased sister. on the wall . We see the glass of the painting cracking. The scene then shifts to Zara Zacchai of Suchitra Pillai, the blind occultist, whose eyes turn white again as whenever she encounters something ghostly.

The scene suggests that Medha and her family are now haunted by the spirit of the deceased sister. In a previous conversation, we learned that the circumstances of his death were a mystery. She was studying parapsychology, and on returning from a trip, she goes to her room and ends her life without leaving any reason for her drastic approach. At one point in the film, we were made to assume that Eva’s mind could have been hers. Interestingly, the doll was given to Medha’s daughter by her sister, so we can assume that the toy now contains her spirit?

So what happened on this excursion that caused the girl to end her life? Did she encounter something beyond comprehension, the repercussions of which were too heavy for her to live with? Or did a spirit or a human kill her? Why is no one wearing a mask, when it is set right now and Cold Case recognizes the pandemic?

Sorry, the last question was just out of irritating curiosity and has nothing to do with the mystery of the ending! Although the biggest question to ask here is, Case closed have a follow-up after the “cold” reception he received! Case closed airs on Amazon Prime Video.
