Sports Mole has chosen a combined eleven ahead of the Madrid derby between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid this weekend.
Rivals of the capital Atletico Madrid and real Madrid will be in La Liga at Wanda Metropolitano this weekend.
It will be the 162nd day of championship pitting the Madrid giants. Los Blancos will lead at the top of the standings for 86 wins against 39 for Atletico, while the other 38 games are completed to perfection.
Each of the last four league games between the two teams is over, including a 0-0 draw against Wanda Metropolitano last season.
Atletico is currently second in the La Liga, but has only two points ahead of the third, Los Blancos, who has had a great run in recent weeks.
Right here, Sports mole selected the best team of both teams, using only the players available for the Saturday afternoon clash in the Spanish capital.
There is no doubt that Thibaut Courtois is an excellent goalkeeper, but it would be fair to say that the Belgian international has not always been at his best for Madrid this season. On the other hand, Jan Oblak was again in excellent shape for Atletico. Aged 26, he has conceded only 14 goals in La Liga this season, keeping a white background in half of his 22 league appearances. Outside Manchester United David de Gea, there is probably no better goalkeeper in the world football.
It is not too difficult to choose the two central defenders given the form they have both presented this season. Indeed, Captain Atletico Diego Godin is an absolute certainty as he continues to produce. The 32-year-old has, once again, played a key role in Atletico, boasting of an excellent defensive record. Godin joins the Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos, who has 10 goals in all competitions this season. Ramos still has doubts, but the Spaniard is an inspirational figure for his club and he is currently in top form.
MarceloThe struggles of this season have seen Sergio Reguilon Enjoy a lot of football for Los Blancos in the last few weeks. The left back is an easy choice in this XI, however, with Atletico Theo Hernandez selected. The 2018 World Cup winner has contributed a goal and a pbad in 15 league games this season and is playing on the other side of Dani Carvajal in this team. Santiago Arias Special mention for Atletico, but Carvajal ahead of the Colombian to catch the last four on the side of this team.
The midfielder is comfortably the most difficult area to choose from. Controversial, only a player from Madrid succeeds. Luka Modric He was voted the best soccer player on the planet in 2018 and, although his form has not always been at this level this season, the performances of the Croatian have been solid in recent weeks. Modric is joined in the midfield by Rodri Hernandez, who joined the Atletico from Villarreal last summer. The 22-year-old has a very good season and has played all 22 league games played on 22 this season.
The tastes of Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio, Toni Kroos and Casemiro would all be competing for this XI if it was purely chosen on talent. However, the current form must play a huge role and injuries have hurt Bale and Asensio in recent months. Kroos and Casemiro, meanwhile, have not been at their best. This midfielder in particular is sorely lacking in breadth, but we ask Atletico Koke and Thomas Partey play in the vast areas. Atletico are not the same team when Koke is not listed, while Thomas, 25, has been a source of inspiration in recent weeks. The Ghanaian international, which stands out Thomas Lemar and Angel Correa, bring athleticism and energy to this particular XI.
Further ahead, the first two are gathering. Vinicius Junior has been notable for Madrid in recent weeks but remains on the decline, while Diego Costa did not play enough football to be considered. Antoine Griezmann scored 16 goals in 31 games this season, including 10 in Liga 22. Griezmann is joined in attack by Karim Benzema, who has scored 18 goals in 36 games in all competitions. The recent form of Benzema has played a key role in the strong form of Madrid and the striker is en route to his best goal campaign since 2015-16.
