Elikplim Agbemava, a private lawyer, criticized the High Court judge who found the case of contempt of court Gregory Afoko against two senior police officials for not having used his full powers.

In an interview with Ghanacrusader radio, Elikplim Agbemava expressed his sadness over the situation in which the Inspector General of Police and the head of the CID systematically refused to appear before Judge Jennifer Dodoo.

"But I will not feel sad for the judge. She has all the powers to deal with both. I will not buy his lamentations, "he said.

Attorney Elikplim pointed out that this development was very dangerous for democracy and the rule of law in the country.

According to Mr. Agbemava, "the High Court is itself an accomplice [in this matter]. He did not use his full powers. The court did not use his powers and no one should claim them. "

"Nobody is above the law. The law must work. This case is opposed to them personally. This is contempt facie curiae. The judge should have quickly issued a warrant for their arrest. How can we explain this, that for more than 60 days, these potential contourners did not appear in court? He asked.

For lawyer Elikplim, the saga involving the IGP and the CID in this case of Gregory Afoko is a political game that should not attract the emotions of Ghanaians.

He said that he would still give the judge a little time as she has October to prove that Ghanaians are wrong.

The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, and the Director General of Police, CID, COP Maame Tiwaa Addo Danquah, did not show up for the third time at a high court in Accra, where they were tried for contempt of court.

Judge Jennifer Dodoo had indicated that she would rule if both officers were present during the previous two sessions from the time the case was called. She expressed her helplessness by stating that she would have issued a arrest warrant against them if they were ordinary citizens.

Gregory Afoko's lawyers have started contempt proceedings against the two top police officers for refusing to release Afoko despite all bail conditions set by the High Court in March 2019 .

Judge Dodoo had indicated that she had rendered her decision following the absence of the two leaders, IGP and CID, on 22 July.

When the case was convened in front of the judge's office today in camera, the directors of the IGP and the CID were no longer present, forcing her to postpone to October 10.
