The confusion erupted on Saturday morning in the electoral district of Ngleshie Amanfrom, which resulted in the temporary suspension of voting in the presidential primary of the current National Democratic Congress of 2019.

Electoral Commission officials decided to split the center into polling stations in order to speed up the voting process, which was slowed by the search for the names of the different delegates in the register.

Some delegates who arrived earlier in the line and about to take their turn to vote were exasperated by the decision to get them to form new queues on the basis of their barriers, as agreed by the party before voting.

Due to this misunderstanding, the vote was interrupted for about 10 minutes before the EC officials and the party solved the problem.

The head of the electoral commission for the constituency, Samuel Mingle, told our correspondent, Adwoa Adobea-Owusu, that the party, before today, had agreed that the delegates would vote in the neighborhoods. [based on their respective polling centres].

However, he said that they had started arriving individually to form waiting lines that were not based on the agreed barriers; one of the things he said made it difficult for election officials to locate the names of the delegates on the register.

Mr. Mingle explained that, with some of them joining the waiting line and getting ready to choose their ballot to vote, they became agitated when they were asked to vote. they were asked to reduce the queue they had formed to create a new barrier-based one.

"They did not understand and this created confusion," he said, adding that after the party officials explained the situation, they "understood and now the polls have resumed and are proceeding in calm.

Some 980 delegates are expected to vote in this constituency to elect a candidate to lead the NDP in the 2020 general election.
