Attorney General and Minister of Justice-designate Godfred Dame said President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo should be congratulated on his decision to dismiss the former director general of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Adjenim Boateng Adjei.
According to him, the president examined the report of the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on the former boss of the PPA and decided that his dismissal was the right decision.
“The termination of the mandate of the former CEO of PPA [Adjenim Boateng Adjei] was made by President Akufo-Addo in the exercise of his powers under the law. He [President Akufo-Addo] reviewed the CHRAJ report and did not hesitate at all to say that the best measure in the interest of the nation was to end the appointment of MB Adjei. I think the President is to be congratulated on the swift and decisive manner in which the dismissal was effected.
He made this known during his consideration in Parliament on Friday, February 12, 2021.
Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei was dismissed in October 2020, by President Akufo-Addo after being accused of conflict of interest.
The CHRAJ had said that the money accumulated in Mr Adjei’s accounts since taking office in 2017 amounted to GHS 14.8 million across his four dollar and euro accounts held at two banks, and he did not could not satisfactorily explain the source of the large volumes of excess wealth that have passed. via his bank accounts between March 2017 and August 2019.
CHRAJ After investigating, Mr. Adjei found him guilty of conflict of interest in the performance of his duties after circumventing procurement procedures for personal gain.
He was also caught in compromising positions in a 2019 investigative article by freelance journalist Manasseh Awuni Azure.
He was found to obtain government contracts through restricted tendering and sell these contracts to others for profit.
