We congratulate all newly elected and re-elected NPP MPs, as well as all who have so far been appointed by President Akufo-Addo for his second term.
It is no feat to attract the attention of the country’s first gentleman to be appointed to serve in his government and invariably in his country.
Your efforts in your respective constituencies across the country as parliamentary candidates have gone a long way in securing the President’s rise to political power for a second time.
However, it should be noted that, despite the re-election of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 elections, the party is still not happy with the victory.
The reasons for this could be many, but the most obvious that comes to mind is the party’s inability to secure an overwhelming majority in Parliament despite the unprecedented achievements of the president and the party during the first term.
The fact that the president won in some constituencies where parliamentary candidates lost is a sign of a lag and poor performance on the part of many of our parliamentary candidates.
Although the committee set up to examine the party’s appalling performance in the recently concluded parliamentary elections has yet to provide empirical reasons, many supporters and sections of the Ghanaian public have attributed the problem to the negligence of some constituencies before the elections and the arrogant posture of some deputies and other former members of the government.
It is for this reason that we would like to call on newly elected MPs and those appointed as Ministers of State to exercise caution and learn from the mistakes of their colleagues.
The appointees should know that they are there to serve the people and nothing more.
They should also be reminded that they occupy such offices because of the victory that the Ghanaians have given to the party.
Without the ruling party, they would not have been appointed in the first place.
That is why they have a duty to recognize and respect all supporters, especially grassroots supporters and other citizens who may approach them for an opportunity.
Whenever possible, appointees should try to adopt at least one constituency and provide resources to the party there to strengthen the base of support.
This would go a long way in helping the party break the 8-year cycle of power in the political space by 2024.
Once again, congratulations on your elections and nominations. More fat on your elbows.
Long live the nuclear power plant!
Long live Ghana!
