Conor McGregor sends a moving message to his UFC rival before Chicago's St. Patrick's Day celebrations

Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson have exchanged insults over the years – but the Irish star of the UFC has apparently put their rift aside to show his support for his rival.

Ferguson often called UFC rival McGregor for a potential fight, but the showdown was unsuccessful.

Although this was definitely a fight the fans wanted to see, this did not happen – the two fighters had their last fight in the Octagon with the UFC 229 ticket.

McGregor was forced to take part in the fourth round of his confrontation with Khabib Nurmagomedov after being placed in a crank by the Russian.

Ferguson was also on the bill at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last October, beating Anthony Pettis after his opponent was rendered unable to continue due to a broken hand.

El Cucuy would go through a difficult period. UFC President Dana White recently revealed that "a lot of personal problems" are what keep the fighter from being in the Octagon.

McGregor also has his own problems after being arrested in South Florida this week after an altercation with a member of the public.

But the Irishman, sued for more than £ 11,000 after breaking the phone of a Miami fan, offered his support to Ferguson.

He posted on Twitter: "Tony Ferguson is the kind of guy who, when all the chips are down, can get them back and come back stronger than ever!

"We came back from a debilitating injury in record time to give us one of the year 's fights!

"Come on Tony!"
