The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has asked the government to consider reopening schools in January 2021.
Schools have been closed since March 15, 2020, as part of government measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The government has had discussions with various stakeholders in the sector to design a comprehensive and detailed plan to reopen the schools.
CHASS National President Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar, in an interview with Citi News, suggested that January 2021 is the appropriate time for schools to reopen.
“We think anywhere between week three and the end of January will be a good time for schools to reopen.”
Educational institutions have been partially reopened to allow final year students to complete their academic work and sit for their exit exams, while permanent students complete their terms.
President Nana Akufo-Addo during his 16th COVID-19 Update to Ghanaians announced that all kindergarten, kindergarten, primary, junior high (JHS) 1 and secondary school students (SHS) 1 would complete on 2019 / Academic year 2020 postponed to January 2021.
He also postponed the reopening of tertiary schools in the country until January 2021.
