Ashanti regional minister revealed that the region recorded 1,166 active infections
The Regional Security Council of Ashanti REGSEC has called on the region’s metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies to ensure strict application of all Covid-19 security protocols as the region records 288 deaths in the space of three months.
According to the regional minister, the region has seen exponential growth in the number of cases in the past three months due to a blatant disregard for all COVID 19 security protocols.
“These recently increased infections in the region in the event of the COVID 19 pandemic, driven by the Delta variant, the Ashanti region, unfortunately, has serious active cases, hospitalizations and a few deaths,” Osei Mensah added.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, REGSEC Chief Hon.Simon Osei Mensah said the rate at which the Delta variant is spreading in the region is alarming, hence the need for all assemblies and business organizations to all sit down to ensure strict adherence to all coronavirus-related safety measures to curb the spread of the virus.
Giving a brief statistic on the virus, the regional minister of Ashanti revealed that the region had recorded 1,166 active infections compared to 87 three months ago, adding that 288 people had succumbed to the virus during the same period.

He noted that “As of April 11, 2021, the active cases were eighty-seven (87) with sixteen (16) deaths. As of July 27, 2021, the active cases were one thousand two hundred and seventeen (1,217) with two hundred and ninety-seven (297) deaths. Just one day after July 31, 2021, the active cases were one thousand two hundred and fifty-three (1,253) with three hundred and four (304)
deaths”.

Mr. Osei Mensah instructed all metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies to ensure compulsory wearing of face masks in communities, to provide Veronica buckets in public places, including markets, truck parks and centers of health, provide disinfectants in public places, make public announcements to increase awareness of the new wave and the need to apply protocols, ensure that all institutions and offices within the jurisdiction provide Veronica’s buckets and disinfectants at the entrances to their offices and also enforce all restrictions on public gatherings as outlined in the Presidents’ 26th speech to the nation on the covid situation.
The regional minister warned all public transporters and their drivers to ensure that all who board their vehicles wear their face masks.

Ghana’s health services have confirmed 518 new cases of COVID-19 as of July 30, 2021.

Of these, 86 are serious and 17 are critical.
The death toll rose to 844.
As of mid-March 2020, Ghana has registered a total of 105,512 cases.
Of that number, 98,392 have recovered.
