The Ghana Health Service (GHS) chief executive said the country would need some 42 million doses of vaccine if it intended to vaccinate its target population of 20 million by October this year.

According to Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, this would include the waste of the vaccines administered.

Making the disclosure at a press conference on Sunday, March 21, 2021, the Director General of GHS told reporters: “So far, Ghana needs around 42 million doses of vaccine and it is so. we only use bile in two doses for all. vaccinate all the 20 million targeted by October of this year and that would include the expected waste. “

“So far we have about $ 12 million of the COVAX facility for about 6 million people covering about 20 percent of the population. We also have around 17 million requests from the African platform for drugs that we hope to see arrive, ”he revealed.

Dr Kuma-Aboagye added that key players in the private sector are also committed to helping the government bring more vaccine to Ghana.

Meanwhile, more than 300,000 people in Ghana have received their first coronavirus vaccines.
