Two coronavirus patients reportedly escaped from Mityana general hospital where they were undergoing treatment.
Hospital spokesman Edward Muganga said one of the missing patients is a resident of Wabigalo village in Tamu Division Mityana municipality while the second is from Kassanda district.
“Unfortunately, the patient from the village of Wabigalo died a few hours after escaping from the room, according to information we received,” Muganga said in an interview on Tuesday evening.
Dr Adonia Samanya, head of the Covid-19 treatment center at Mityana Hospital, said relatives of the patients removed them from the facility after learning they would be referred to Entebbe hospital.
“We had everything finalized to give them a referral given their worsening condition, but their relatives smuggled them out of the room while we waited for the ambulance,” added Dr Samanya.
According to Mr. Yasin Ndidde, the deputy commissioner of the Mityana resident district who is also chairman of the Covid-19 district working group, they are liaising with intelligence officers and local leaders in the region to find the two patients and their relatives. in order to avoid spreading the virus. . “
