He said the center would also allow the Urban Roads Department to monitor traffic light failures.

Mr. Amoako Atta gave this badurance when he took part in the series of meetings with the press organized by the Ministry of Information in Accra last Tuesday.

This is good news and comforting badurances from the government, especially due to delays and pain caused by faulty traffic lights, causing damage to motorists and pedestrians.

Traffic lights are supposed to bring sanity to our roads by controlling traffic jams and road accidents. And it is the responsibility of someone to make sure that they are in good condition at all times.

But are they really being watched and serving the purpose for which they were mounted?

Traffic light maintenance is a fundamental aspect of the Urban Roads department responsible for the operation, maintenance, improvement and repair of all signaling facilities.

We found that the current routine maintenance system was very expensive, time consuming and inherently inefficient.

This problem requires a very efficient telemetry control system that will monitor all traffic intersections and also establish control over intersections from a base station.

In order to minimize field defects, all halogen signal heads must be replaced by LED signal heads because of their almost permanent lifetime.

Statistics show that a number of accidents occur during the night, which is why the Daily Graphic is worried about the lack of street lights and road markings, as well as traffic lights down.

It was not so long ago that a bridge built over the railway on the Graphic Road in Accra was opened.

As usual with newly built roads, the entire bridge was well lit with a number of streetlights – this time with solar powered lights.

Not too surprising, however, not all lights work anymore.

It's as if we had resigned ourselves to the streets without light and that drivers still had to do magic to get to their destination.

Road markings are also allowed to fade to such an extent that drivers need to be very aware of the roads to use them. There seems to be a total breakdown on our roads, which is not enough.

The Daily Graphic is therefore asking the relevant government agencies, particularly the metropolitan, municipal and district bademblies, to ensure that as soon as the light bulbs go out, they are replaced to light up all the streets and corners. throughout the year.

In this way, our traffic lights and traffic lights will help make road markings visible to reduce road accidents and make our roads safe and secure.

The Daily Graphic is aware of Mr. Amoako Atta's commitment to the Ministry of Roads and Highways and we encourage him to meet the many challenges of the road sector, including the deterioration of 39, state of our roads.

Already, there are signs that the government has put in place strategies to improve road transportation in this country.

This mandate, which the Ministry of Roads and Highways must know very well, can not afford to fail.
