Corruption: 21 people appointed to CDN pending prosecution – Akufo-Addo discloses

At least 21 members of the former administration headed by John Dramani Mahama are currently being prosecuted for corruption-related offenses, the president said.

According to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, these proceedings may have been delayed in part because of due process. Another reason, said the president, lies in the deliberate efforts of those prosecuted to delay the process.

Nana Akufo-Addo made these revelations in Canada on Sunday, June 2, during a meeting with members of the Ghanaian community living in this country.

He explained why his administration was not able to successfully prosecute the appointees of his predecessor accused of corruption.

"In the meantime, the Attorney General has not been inactive [even though] people say that there is no prosecution. Twenty-one (21) people are currently facing a trial in Ghana for corruption, "he said.

However, the president said, "One of the things I'm not ready to do is to remove the process in due form."

"I fought for that all my life in Ghana, so that we have a state that recognizes, accepts and recognizes the respect of the procedure, as a fundamental instrument of the policy of the State," he declared under the applause of the public.

Nana Akufo-Addo pleaded with those who accuse her government of not imprisoning former corrupt government officials to allow the court process to take its course.

"So, if you complain to someone in court and the person files an application after the application, whether to delay the process or if the applications are genuine, you will have to recognize their right to do so and that's when they will be exhausted. as the trials begin.

"Some of the trials have started. Those who started, efforts were made to thwart them by going to the Supreme Court; the Supreme Court rejects these efforts and the process begins … ", he explained.

Speaking on the stewardship of the Special Prosecutor, President Akufo-Addo said that he had an unshakable confidence in Mr. Martin Amidu and that he hoped that he would be safe. 39 would pay it.

He therefore asked the Ghanaians to allow the Special Prosecutor time to settle down so that he can begin his work.

"The person I chose is a very responsible Ghanaian, I have no doubt about his determination in this regard," he said.

He conceded that the government may have neglected – when creating the Special Prosecutor's Office – the need to comply with public sector regulations.

Nevertheless, the president said that all the challenges were resolved and that soon, "we will hear when he is ready".
