Tony Award-nominated costume and fashion designer Emilio Sosa has been elected president of the American Theater Wing, the organization announced today. Sosa succeeds current Co-Chairs David Henry Hwang and Ted Chapin.
Sosa, who joined the wing’s board in 2015, said in a statement: “I couldn’t be more honored to hold this position at this crucial time, or more honored to succeed two leaders as well. accomplished. I look forward to continuing to build the Wing’s long-term equity work, to broaden and deepen our educational work, to build bridges between all parts of theater ecology and to cultivate conversation and action in all parts of the country to ensure that all voices and professions in our industry are heard.

Sosa will be joined by newly appointed Vice Presidents Dale Cendali, Patricia Crown, James Higgins, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Lee Perlman and Nadine Wong. Trustees Pam Zilly and Natasha Katz will also join the board leadership as treasurer and secretary, respectively.
Hwang and Chapin will both retain active roles for the Wing as they take on responsibilities as immediate past presidents.
