A High Court in Accra awarded the cost of GH 50,000 to the Daily Post, a Ghana-based newspaper for defamation.

It was on a case filed by former Deputy Communications Minister George Andah on a publication by the newspaper that sought to implicate the former minister in causing financial loss to the state.

According to a post on Friday, October 27, 2017, the former communications minister was to be held responsible for negotiating a $ 2.5 million deal to procure a GPS application for the national mailing address system resulting in a financial loss to the state.

But the former minister denied having any knowledge of the processes leading up to the deal.

The court ruled that the newspaper failed to substantiate the allegations with any evidence and that the newspaper’s posture through the publication only sought to disparage the character of the plaintiff.

Therefore, he was requested to pay an amount of GH 50,000 for the damage caused.
