Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National President of the NDC
The High Court of Accra rejected a request for a stay of proceedings filed by the National President of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
Mr. Ampofo is currently on trial with Anthony Kweku Boahen, NDC Assistant Communications Officer, charged with badaulting a public official and conspiring to commit an badault on a public official.
He wanted the court to terminate his trial until the final decision of an appeal challenging the court's decision not to strike the charges against him.
Rejected application
In a decision rendered today (Monday, July 30, 2019), the court, presided over by Judge Samuel Asiedu, dismissed the claim on the grounds that it was unfounded.
According to Judge Asiedu, he had already ruled that the question of whether or not the charges were well founded could only be decided during the trial when evidence is produced.
Case A-G
According to the prosecution, following the debacle of the by-elections of Ayawaso West Wuogon on January 31, 2019, Ofosu Ampofo met with NDC party communicators on February 3, 2019.
The facts explain that at the said meeting, Ofosu Ampofo and Boahen prepared a road map of criminal activities, including acts of violence against the President of the European Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa and the President of the National Peace Council, Professor Emmanuel Asante.
He clarified that an audio recording of said meeting had been leaked, which had led the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police to investigate the band's comments.
The prosecution added that on February 20, 2019, Boahen had granted an interview on the radio in which he confirmed his participation in the said meeting and had also revealed that the leak of the audio recording was a true reflection of what which happened at the meeting of February 3, 2019.
