The Court of Appeal dismissed a bail action granted by a high court in Accra to Mr. Gregory Afoko, one of the suspects awaiting trial for the murder of the former president of the Upper Patriotic Region in the Upper East (NPP), Adams Mahama.
According to MyNewsGh.com reporters, this is the second time the Attorney General has tried again to terminate the bond given to the suspect, but it was lost after the first, on Friday, March 22, 2019, by the High Court presided over by Judge George Buadi.
The trial judge had held that the request for continued detention of the suspect by the A-G constituted an abuse of human rights enshrined in the Constitution and governed by the Supreme Court.
The suspect's family, who had previously expressed concern about the use of certain administrative procedures to delay his release, revealed that it had been justified by the most recent measures reinforcing his point of view. Mr Gregory Afoko was released on bail a month ago in an amount of 500 000 GH ¢, with two surety bonds to be justified by a high court in Accra.
However, on Monday, March 15, 2019, the Public Prosecutor's Office ordered a stay of execution at a time when the suspect's family was preparing to finalize the conditions of his release on bail.
On Friday, March 22, 2019, the trial judge dismissed the claim as unfounded.
The Afoko family suspects some people in collusion with the power to manipulate the whole process and do everything in their power to frustrate them in one way or another.
