A high court in Wenchi, Bono region, rejected a petition to order the swearing-in of the elected member of Techiman South.
Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah won the legislative elections in the constituency in the 2020 general election.
He won the seat with 49,682 votes.
Ruling on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, the tribunal chaired by Fred Nawura observed that suspending Korsah’s swearing-in would be unfair to voters in Techiman South.
In another development, the Supreme Court overturned the interim injunction placed on the publication of election results of parliamentary results Hohoe showing Peter Amewu as the winner.
A five-member panel of the Supreme Court overturned Ho’s High Court ruling to bar Peter Amewu from running as the elected member of the Hohoe constituency.
By this, Peter Amewu can freely go to parliament and would be sworn in in the eighth parliament of the fourth republic to represent his constituency.
The parliamentary election in Hohoe constituency resulted in the declaration of John Peter Amewu of the New Patriotic Party as the winner, obtaining 26,952 (55.18%) of the popular vote.
On December 22, 2020, the results of the national legislative elections were published by the Election Commission.
In other news, there was a subtle war of words exchanged between Ghana’s majority and minority leaders in Parliament following President Akufo-Addo’s State of the Nation address.
Majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu after the delivery of the last State of the Nation speech from the 7th Parliament of the 4th Republic called for the proceedings to continue.
