The chief economist of the Central Bank of Rwanda, Thomas Kigabo, has died of complications from Covid-19.
He died while being treated in a hospital in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
Mr. Kigabo had been the chief economist of the central bank for more than 10 years. He was also a university lecturer and preacher.
He is the first senior government official to succumb to Covid-19 in the country.
Rwanda has so far recorded more than 10,000 cases of coronavirus with 133 deaths.
