Churches in the southern municipality of Akatsi in the Volta region have incorporated the use of face masks after laxity in adhering to Covid-19 security protocols.

The application of strict compliance with these protocols was made necessary by the new outbreak of coronavirus cases in the country.

Many believe the new confirmed cases have raised concerns that the country’s significant gains in the fight against Covid-19 may be a problem following an increase in the number of active cases recently.

GNA visits on Sunday to some large churches in South Akatsi Municipality revealed that adherence to security protocols has drawn a lot of attention.

Churches include the Catholic Church of Christ the King, The Church of Pentecost, The Evangelical World Church, The Church of Apostolic Vision International, The Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana, The Church of the Assemblies of God, Church of Christ, Church of the Lord Pentecostal International, Church of other Conquerors.

Some pastors explained, “The new situation is worrying, hence their determination to constantly call on God to intervene and adhere to the rules.”

Pastor Oscar Kludzie, president of the Akatsi Local Council of Churches, in an interaction with the GNA, said: “Christians must be guided by established protocols to save the people from this deadly disease.”

Pastor Francis Gasu, chief pastor of the Church of the Conquerors International, said Christians should stand firm and pray to God for his mercy.

So far, no new cases of COVID 19 have been recorded in South Akatsi Municipality after recording a case last year.
