Director of Public Health at Ghana Health Service (GHS) Dr Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe said the Covid-19 vaccine that Ghana has yet to receive will be free for Ghanaians.

He told JoyNews Newsfile host Samson Lardy Anyenini that vaccines in Ghana are completely free, whether it is Covid-19 or measles.

“They are not paid. They are paid by the government. So the average Ghanaian doesn’t pay for it. It’s free, ”he added.

Meanwhile, the government is spending more than $ 200 million to purchase the Covid-19 vaccine for the general population.

Dr Asiedu-Bekoe at a press conference on Thursday revealed that the price of the vaccine currently available ranges from $ 4 to $ 20 and that would be the cost at which every Ghanaian would be vaccinated.

In addition, Ghana is one of 145 counties listed to receive vaccines from a number of vendors through the COVAX facility according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Ghana is intended to receive 2.4 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine which is licensed by the Serum Institute of India (AZ / SII).
