President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presented Tuesday to the region of Savanah its document of attestation and constitutional instrument (CI 115), which officially gives effect to the creation of the region.

The president appointed Damongo, in the district of West Gonja, the capital of the new region, bringing to 12 the number of regions of Ghana. The Northeast region, the 11th was officially inaugurated earlier.

The current Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, will administer the region until the appointment of a deputy minister.

The new region, cut out in the northern region, voted 99.5% for its creation in the referendum last December on the reorganization of the region.

At a colorful event on the forecourt of the Jubilee House in Accra, President Akufo-Addo said that the creation of the region responded to the many calls and requests made by the inhabitants of the region to successive administrations .

"Today's ceremony, the presentation of the constitutional instrument for the creation of the Savannah region and the signing of the instrument of attestation, are the result of 23 23 years of unrest, demands and of petitions presented by successive members of Yabgonwuras, Parliament, Gonjaland Youth Association, among others, to successive governments for the creation of this region, to no avail ".

He added that although the savanna region is rich in natural resources, it was the least developed in the Northern region, stressing the importance of ensuring that the area takes its rightful place among the other regions. the country in terms of development.

"It is now up to the government to start the process of rapid development of the savanna region."

The President badured the public of his government's determination to ensure that the region has sufficient resources for an effective take-off.

In the 2019 budget, the Minister of Finance allocated 20 million GHC to each of the six new regions created after the December referendum.

"The region will survive you and me, but rest badured that the Savanah region will thank you for it forever," he told the president, before confirming that he and his people would support the government's efforts to bring development and prosperity to the new region.
