The cruise pbadengers hope to be able to reinstate TUI compensation after being hit by an alleged norovirus. Vacationers Dawn, Colin Stewart and Linda Cody were aboard the last Explorer 2 ship of Marella Cruises last month, when they became ill. They suffered from a severe gastric disease that made them vomit and have diarrhea. Cruise pbadengers have since asked specialized lawyers in the national firm Irwin Mitchell to open an investigation.
Cody, 64, began suffering from diarrhea and stomach cramps, as well as sore throats and cold sores, six days after boarding the Marella Explorer 2 in Naples on May 14th.
Cody, who booked his cruise package with tour operator Hays, told Irwin Michell, "After boarding the cruise ship, it became clear to other pbadengers that Norovirus was affecting several people, including the staff.
"Things were going so badly that I occasionally saw staff members handing out food to people and manipulating the glbades, as well as asking people to wash their hands and using paper tissues to open the toilet doors. All pools have also been closed.
"But it was obviously insufficient, and I noticed that the food was not hot enough and that it was left uncovered for a while.
"I booked the cruise a few months ago and I was really looking forward to it, but it was completely ruined because I was so sick and could not enjoy my time aboard the ship.
"This is not something you expect when you go on vacation; it was supposed to be a memorable break, but now I'll remember it for all the wrong reasons. "
A norovirus was diagnosed at Cody after returning to the UK on May 16th.
According to Irwin Mitchell, she was also given a chest x-ray and blood tests. She is still suffering from the effects of the disease and is still undergoing additional tests.
Similarly, cruisers Dawn and Colin Stewart began to suffer stomach cramps, illness and diarrhea four days after starting their cruise aboard the Marella Explorer 2. They claim that they were told so asked to stay in their room.
Dawn said: "It was our first time cruising and we were very excited. But all the experience was horrible.
"We could not enjoy the majority of our vacation and when we arrived home on May 1, Colin had to take two extra days off because of his status as a carpenter.
"It really made us think twice before booking another cruise in the future."
The pbadengers concerned are now hoping to receive compensation for their misfortune.
Jatinder Paul, senior badociate attorney at Irwin Mitchell, said, "We are deeply concerned about the reports our customers have given us about the gastric illnesses they have suffered during this cruise.
"Norovirus is not only a debilitating disease affecting the pleasure of our customers' cruise vacation, it has also continued to touch part of their lives at home in the UK. This is clearly not what these pbadengers were expecting from their holidays.
"We have already started our investigations to find out if more could have been done to prevent what happened and we would like to hear from others who may have been involved as well."
A spokesperson for TUI told Express.co.uk: "We are very sorry to hear about these customers' experiences on Explorer 2. As this is now a legal issue, it would be inappropriate to comment further. .
"We would like to rebadure customers that we regularly check all our cruise ships for health and safety, including hygiene.
