Adult Swim and Crunchyroll have teamed up with Alcon Television Group, a division of Alcon Entertainment, to produce and distribute a new animated series titled BLADE RAY BLADE which will feature the best Japanese designers.
Inspired by Oscar-winning and critically acclaimed film BLADE RUNNER 2049, BLADE RAY BLADE will feature thirteen 30-minute episodes produced by the animation studio Sola Digital Arts (Ultraman).
Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) and Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the shell: autonomous complex) will direct all episodes of the first season. Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) is a creative producer.
While BLADE RAY BLADEThe plot is kept secret for now, the producers have confirmed that the story will take place in 2032 and will include characters known to the RUNNER BLADE universe.

RUNNER BLADE Philip K. Dick began life in 1968 as a visionary science fiction novel entitled "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" The novel was adapted to the clbadic RUNNER BLADE film directed by Ridley Scott starring Harrison Ford in 1982. The franchise was relaunched in 2017 with the long-awaited follow-up BLADE RUNNER 2049, directed by Denis Villeneuve. As part of 2049Promotion, an animated short film directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, BLADE RUNNER BLACK OUT 2022, was also released. It is also currently available for viewing on Crunchyroll.

Although a release date for the new BLADE RAY BLADE has not yet been announced, Adult Swim will air the English dubbed episodes on his Toonami programming block. Meanwhile, Crunchyroll will handle streaming around the world.
BLADE RAY BLADE is one of the exciting collaborations coming up between Adult Swim and Crunchyroll, including the recent Mob Psycho 100 on Toonami.
