Curfew The vandalized house

The government tightened the curfew in the municipality of Bole in the Savannah area following gunfire that disrupted Eid-Ul-Fitr's prayers last Wednesday.

A curfew from 8 pm to 5 am in the city and surrounding area was immediately postponed from 6 pm to 6 am, after the burning of two houses and the vandalism of another with a vehicle.

It has also reinforced the total prohibition of the carrying of weapons, ammunition or any offensive weapon by anyone in the area.

Sleepless violence related to chieftaincy erupted Wednesday after the arrival of a leader at war during Muslim prayers marking the end of Ramadan.

Shots were fired by angry young men, forcing men, women and children to flee from the prayer halls on foot and by motorbike.

The young people reportedly prevented an allegedly illegitimate leader from praying with the city's imams.

Our correspondent reported that the incident resulted from a persistent leadership dispute between Abdulai Issahaku Kant, who would be the legitimate complainant of Bole's skin, and Abudu Abubakar, the Yagbonwura's favorite.

The northern regional police command confirmed the incident at 3news.com, claiming that his rival leader, Alhaji Abukari Abudu, whose return to Bole had unleashed violence, was rescued by police from his home in Damongo, where he has been since the end of 2018.

"The situation is under control as the police and the army prepare to apply the curfew," said a statement released by police on Wednesday.

Police have meanwhile asked the residents of Bole to avoid violence and allow peace to reign in the area.

"Security agencies will prosecute and arrest any person or group that tries to bring justice," the statement said.
