The Tema Command of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Division announced that it had begun to implement the reduction of the number of physical checks of containers in the port, which was previously 90% to 10%. %.

According to the sector commander, Mr. Godfred Okoh-Appiah, however, the command has not yet implemented the reduction of import reference values, as this was not within their competence.

Dr. Godfred Okoh-Appiah told Graphic Online at the port Thursday that even though the Commissioner of Customs had called him by phone and had instructed the Command to implement the policy, the clbadification report and the Customs Valuation of Customs Technical Services (CTSB) in Accra, as such, the Command has no control over the reduction of reference values.

"Once the statements are approved, the command no longer has any reason to question once we know that the rules of reference are established," said Dr. Okoh-Appiah.

Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, announced a government policy to reduce by 50% the reference value of all imports, with the exception of the customs duties on vehicles, which will be reduced by 30%.
