A deep pothole closer to the Buipe Toll Bridge in the Savannah area trapped two vehicles blocking all other vehicles on the Tamale-Techiman Expressway, creating heavy traffic for nearly 24 hours.

The two Burkinabe heavy goods vehicles registered BF 2397 T1 03 and BF 1723 E6 03, which were traveling on the other side of the road, got stuck in the pothole, around 6:00 p.m. GMT on Saturday August 28.

Other drivers who attempted to overtake vehicles in front ended up blocking the entire road, leaving several commuters stranded.

Some of the stranded passengers expressed disappointment at the situation, explaining that the pothole had been there for a long time, but authorities who levied tolls about 50 meters from the scene did not fix it.

Mr. Fred Balua, a passenger traveling from Kumasi to Navrongo, “I access this road regularly and we often complain about the pothole, but nothing is done.”

“It’s an international road and it doesn’t give the country a good reputation if minor issues like repairing a pothole are concerned,” he said.

Others who spoke to the GNA called on the Ghana Highway Authority to take action to address the issue to alleviate their plight.

At 0900 GMT, the situation was far from being resolved.
