Damongo named capital of the newly created Savannah region

President Akufo-Addo chose Damongo as the capital of the new Savannah region after a short event Tuesday at the Jubilee House in Accra.

He revealed this information at a ceremony to present his constitutional instruments (CI116) to give effect to the creation of the Northeast region and the savannah.

About Damongo

Damongo is a city and district capital of West Gonja, a district of the Savannah region of northern Ghana.

It houses the suzerain of the kingdom Gonja; Yagbonwura and it is also the capital, the largest city in the district of Damongo, represented in Parliament by Adam Mutawakilu.

Damongo is bragging Key tourist attractions like the Mole National Park where visitors are guaranteed to see a myriad of chief animals including elephants.

It also houses the popular tourist site of the Larabanga Mosque and the mystic stone of Larabanga, with all the ancient stories that surround them.

Among the eminent personalities who were born in Damongo or come from Damongo are former President John Dramani Mahama; Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin; former Minister of Defense / Health; Benjamin Kunbuor and the former presidential candidate of the People's Congress Party (PCP), Michael Abu Sakara Foster.
