Daniel James, of Manchester United, feels every day the pain of his father's death, but says, "I know he's looking down on me, but that's still driving me."

James' father, Kevan, died in May at the age of 60, three weeks before the 21-year-old Wales winger joined United for £ 15 million.

"Every day I miss him," said James. "He always drove me when he was here.

"There are times when I'm a little depressed about it but what it would say is it's still playing and working hard."

James was largely impressed in United's 1-0 win over the pre-season against Inter Milan in Singapore on Saturday.

There were some mistakes, including the first-half shot that he swept away following the dismissal of Victor Lindelof.

But his new manager, Old Gunnar Solskjaer, has twice praised United during his tour in Australia and Asia.

James reads nothing in his selection in Norway's starting lineup against Inter, which was the first important match of this four-game trip.

"It's nice but there are three other games to play at the beginning of the season," he said.
