Daniel James retires from Wales after mourning

Swansea winger Daniel James has retired from the Wales group after the sudden death of his father.

James had been named in the team for a training camp in Portugal in anticipation of the next qualifying matches for Euro 2020 next month, but did not travel Wednesday.

Swansea announced the death of his father Thursday morning.

A statement from the club said, "Everyone in Swansea City was saddened to hear of the sudden pbading of Daniel James' father.

"Everyone in the football club sends their condolences and our thoughts go to Daniel and his family at this sad moment."

A statement from the Wales Football Federation said: "Our thoughts are with Dan James, his family, and his friends during this difficult time."

Wales will be competing for Euro 2020 in Croatia and Hungary on 8 and 11 June respectively.

James, 21, is closely linked to the move to Manchester United in recent days. The Premier League club reportedly agreed to pay Swansea £ 15 million.

In 38 appearances with the Swans last season, James scored five goals and 10 badists.
