MAURIZIO SARRI said Danny Drinkwater was not a central midfielder – but admitted he might be forced to play against him if he did not sign a new player.
The 28-year-old has only made a 30-minute appearance since the Italian boss took power in Chelsea and changed tactics.
Drinkwater made 22 appearances under Antonio Conte last season, but he is not part of Sarri's favorite 4-3-3 formation.
The Blues manager insisted that the English ace was very good in a 4-4-2 formation, but was not a natural central midfielder.
When asked if Drinkwater was training with the team first, Sarri replied, "Yes, of course, he is with us right now.
"As you know very well, because I told you my opinion about this player, he is a very good player.
"But I think it's more appropriate to play with two midfielders.
"This is not a central midfielder, he's not a center right player in the midfield with three players. But he's a very good player in a 4-4 -2. "
When asked when he was going to play, Sarri said, "Not at the moment, but I want to wait until the end of the market, then I will try with each player."
Sarri left Drinkwater to make his own decision this month and said his future "depends on him".
But Drinkwater earns about £ 100,000 a week at Stamford Bridge and it seems like nobody wants to accept his wage demands.
Sarri wants to strengthen his midfield after Cesc Fabregas made his transfer to Monaco earlier this month.
Leandro Paredes has emerged as one of the favorites to replace the Spanish, but he snubbed the Blues to join Paris-Saint Germain.
