David Moyes insists that German star Toni Kroos would have joined Manchester United in 2014 without his dismissal.

Moyes took over at Old Trafford in the summer of 2013, replacing Sir Alex Ferguson in the dugout.

However, just nine months after the start of the contract, Everton's former boss was sacked by United, then England's seventh in the Premier League.

At that time, Kroos was in the midst of a contractual conflict with the former Bayern Munich club.

And although they were Pep Guardiola regulars, the Die Roten leaders refused to pay a similar sum to Kroos to his international teammate Mario Gotze.

As such, in the summer of 2014, Kroos moved to Real Madrid.

But speaking on beIN Sports this weekend, Moyes said Kroos would rather be heading to United's place.

"During the season I had met Toni Kroos," Moyes said.

"And he agreed to come to Manchester United before going to Real Madrid.

"But somewhere, I lost my job and Toni chose to go somewhere else."

Moyes also revealed that United had a helicopter waiting for Gareth Bale, while he was looking to usurp Madrid to land the Welsh during the first Scottish transfer niche.

"By the time we arrived at the end of the transfer window, we still thought we had a chance to get Gareth Bale.

"We hoped to dissuade him from going to Real Madrid because it was already half done. We offered more money, we tried to seduce him.

Asked if United had a Welsh helicopter waiting, Moyes replied, "We did it. We were doing. We had it and we tried it. "
