Residents protested Friday and gave 14 days to the government to repair the road from Dawhenya to Afienya
Jonathan Paa Nii Doku, chief executive of Ningo Prampram District in Greater Accra Region, said that the ultimatum given by locals for the repair of their roads in Dawhenya was untenable.
Residents protested on Friday and gave the government 14 days to repair the road from Dawhenya to Afienya or face their anger.
They burned tires and blocked the road with a container as part of their demonstration.
Mr. Doku revealed that he had already taken steps to resolve the road problems, but the two-week delay granted by the residents will not solve the problem.
"In reality, one thing is empirical, you can not repair this road in two weeks. Practically, it is not even possible. It's not like I'm sitting down and doing nothing to fix the situation, "he said in Eyewitness News.
"It is not up to the Assembly to repair this great path. The road belongs to the Ministry of Roads and the responsible agency is the Ghanaian Authority of Roads and Urban Roads. As DCE, I can draw the attention of the department to the deplorable nature of the road, which I did. I have also sent a number of letters, "he added.
Residents said that the bad nature of the stretch is detrimental to their health and the collapse of many businesses.
They decried negligence and broken promises to successive governments and legislators over the last few decades.
MP for the region, Samuel Nartey George, supported the demonstrations and blamed the government for the delay in repairing the road.
He also threatened to join his constituents to demonstrate again if their concerns are not resolved.
