Some residents of Dawhenya, in the Ningo-Prampram district of Greater Accra, yesterday took part in a demonstration on the deplorable state of the roads in the region.
Protesters mounted roadblocks and burned tires at the Dawhenya junction to protest the appalling nature of the roads, particularly a road linking the community to Afienya.

The district police chief, Commissioner Issah Mohammed Cantona, told the Daily Graphic that no arrests had been made because they did not want the protest to escalate into chaos.

They also claimed that the state of the road had negative consequences for the health and business of the inhabitants of the region.
Due to the deplorable nature of the road, some commuters from Dawhenya community connected to Afienya via the Tema Highway roundabout.
The Ningo-Prampram youth development chief, Mr. John Charway, explained that the event was intended to express their dissatisfaction, and "this is our way of telling the government that we could take action. other measures if the problem was not resolved ".
They issued a 14-day ultimatum to the government to repair roads or attend more demonstrations in the community.

The district chief (DCE) of the region, Mr. Jonathan Paa Nii Doku, who was on the scene, is committed to forward the grievances of the residents to the government to obtain compensation.
For his part, the Ningo-Prampram MP, Mr. Samuel Nettey George, said that he supported the action of the residents.
According to him, the road was essential to solve the traffic jams on the Tema-Aflao and Tema-Akosombo roads.
"Over the last 20 years, successive governments have failed to improve the region's road infrastructure, leaving people dying.
"I will therefore support any demonstration that would put pressure on the government to improve the state of this road, because we can not continue to see our people die," said the deputy.
