DCEE La Dadekotopon Launches Citizenship Week

Accra, June 7, GNA – The National Commission
Civic Education (NCCE) of the Municipal Assembly of La Dadekotopon (LaDMA) has
launched its Citizenship Week for the year to raise citizens' awareness of their
the responsibility to maintain the cleanliness of their communities and their country.

The program, held in Accra on
Tuesday was on the theme "One

Clean Ghana, Our Responsibility "and has been
43 primary schools and four high schools selected from six
circuits within the municipality and other identifiable groups.

Ms. Josephine Nkrumah, President of the
NCCE in his speech to the function, said that the theme of the celebration was apt
to drive the national program to have responsible citizens who would help to
to build a clean, healthy and rich nation.

She called on citizens to change
lifestyles to help fight the unsanitary conditions that have engulfed
the nation.

She advised students, representatives of
the badembly, the clergy and other dignitaries not to see the cleansing of the
the environment under the exclusive responsibility of the badembly, the government or the waste
management companies, but rather as a collective responsibility.

The President also encouraged them to

styles that would keep their homes, communities and country clean and
stressed the need to refrain from dumping waste into gutters.

of plastic, they must avoid buying food in plastic bags and take
their cups and bowls to buy directly from the vendors.

"We can also use cloth bags instead of
plastic bags, reuse bottles and plastic bags before throwing them away
of. Also look for ways to recycle waste, for example in NCCE we give to all
our waste paper to a recycling company that gives us in turn rolls of toilet paper. "
