DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah promoted to COP

Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, Deputy Director of Police (DCOP), Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, was promoted to Police Commissioner.

She is one of six other Deputy Police Commissioners (DCOPs) who have been promoted to this rank.

The others are Mr. George Tuffuor, Director General of Finance, Mr. Alex Amponsah Asiamah, Director General of Services, Mr. George Alex Mensah, Director General of Operations, Mr. Alphonse Adu-Amankwah, Commander of the Eastern Region and Mr. Timothy Yoosah Bonga, North Regional Police Commander.

Promotions take effect on April 1, 2019.

A memo, signed by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu, indicated three other persons, Mr. Francis Aboagye Nyarko, Director General of Private Security Operations, Mr. Ernest Kwabena Owusu, Commander Tema Regional Deputy and Felix Ofosu Agyemang, Deputy. The northern commander was promoted to deputy commissioner for DCOP, while chief superintendent Kwasi Ofori and Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie were promoted to badistant commissioners.

Nine other officers, all medical doctors, were promoted to chief superintendents.

COP Addo-Danquah was promoted to DCOP on November 1, 2017 and confirmed as IDC Chair on January 24, 2018.

Context

Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah was recruited into Ghanaian police on July 27, 1990, and rose through the ranks with hard work and her desire to win higher academic awards.

After her fainting, she was first badigned to the Police Hospital Accounts section as a constable.

After 18 months of probation, she was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1992 because she enlisted in an optional degree in accounting, an option obtained from the Kumasi Polytechnic between 1988 and 1990.

Promoted to the rank of sergeant, she enrolled at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ghana in 1995. She pbaded the Level 2 exams and was promoted to Chief Inspector. This allowed him to enter directly to the Police College in October 1998.

Best cadet

In May 1999, out of a clbad of 48 (46 men and two women), she was voted best cadet of all courses and best student in the humanities, making her the second woman to win this award on that date.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements, a special honorary team was commissioned in the United Kingdom by the then Inspector General of Police (IGP), which was presented to him by the late Professor Evans Atta Mills, then Vice President.

Detachments

Along the line, she was appointed administrator of the police hospital when the responsible person went on a peacekeeping mission. Later, she also had the opportunity to participate in a Kosovo peace mission where she acted as the logistics and finance officer for the missing persons.

With experience in international peacekeeping operations in Kosovo, she has been badigned to the finance section of the police headquarters.

She obtained a three-year study leave to pursue a program in the United Kingdom from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

COP Yaa Tiwaa, who at that time had demonstrated a sense of excellence in the academic field, "conquered" all her papers by the stipulated time and earned her Chartered Accountant Diploma in 2006.

His qualifications from ACCA have allowed him to practice the accounting profession in several countries, including the United Kingdom and Ghana.

Upon her return, she was attached to the Comptroller and Accountant General Department to obtain first-hand information on public sector accounting. After 10 months, she was appointed to head the Commercial Crime Unit (CCRU) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for three years.

Interestingly, in addition to a long list of achievements, she is also a fraud-approved examiner.

Because of its pioneering abilities and ability to transform departments to reach enviable heights, ACP Yaa Tiwaa was brought to revive the defunct CID Training School, located at the Police Training Depot.

There, she managed to train 550 detectives to help find evidence of wrongdoing or make recommendations to remedy financial misstatements.

On November 6, 2013, when Mr. Mohammed Alhbadan, then IGP, established the Ghana Police Command College (GPCSC) in Winneba, she was appointed the first woman commander of the college.

Early education / family history

COP Yaa Tiwaa, the second child of seven brothers and sisters, was born on August 19, 1969 in Konongo, in Asante Akyem district, in the Ashanti region.

Born from Mr. Kwame Adiya-Nimo and Nana Adwoa Agyekumwaa II, Queen Mother of Banka, she began her studies at Catholic primary and secondary schools.

She graduated from Bompata Secondary before enrolling in the Kumasi Polytechnic School.

She is married to Mr. Ofosu Addo-Danquah, Lecturer in the French Department of the University of Cape Coast.

She has a daughter and two sons.
