Professor Afful Broni was sworn in by President Akufo-Addo last year
Education Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh supported Professor Anthony Afful-Broni, current vice-chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, who said: "There is only one vice- Chancellor "at the University.
The support of Mr. Prempeh is explained by the intensification of the tensions that prevail at the University. A team of national security and police officers on Tuesday sued members of the university's fired staff, including former vice-chancellor Professor Mawutor Avoke.
In 2017, Professor Avoke was ordered to retire as a VC from STE until a case was brought against him and the university's board of directors was determined.
The order was issued in a case brought before the court by Supi Kofi Kwayera, who insisted that the Vice Chancellor and the Finance Officer reported to the missing Governing Board of that institution.
The High Court later found Professor Avoke and the school's finance officer, Dr. Theopholus Senyo Ackorlie, guilty of buying and financial irregularities resulting in their dismissal.
However, unanimously, the Supreme Court overturned the judgment of the High Court. The judges who sat in the case found that the High Court's judgment based on the dismissal of Professor Avoke was erroneous. canceled, and was therefore null and void, and without effect.
This meant that Professor Avoke should have been reinstated as an ET VC. This, however, was not the case since the very reverend Father Anthony Afful-Broni, professor, was appointed VC.
Commenting on the situation on Wednesday during the meeting with the press in Accra, the Minister of Education said: "I can say without hesitation that there is only one of them. 39, only one vice-chancellor in the ETS. If in this country we want to go anarchic, somebody gets up from somewhere, comes to sit at the Flag Staff House and say that I am the president.
"There is only one legal and legitimate vice-chancellor. He is Reverend Afful Broni. Anyone who does not understand must go through the legal process. We will not accept such things. "
Professor Avoke earlier this year criticized the government's response to the Supreme Court decision.
According to him, he suspects political maneuvers preventing him from returning to university, accusing his successor, Professor Afful-Broni, and the chairman of the board of directors, Professor Abakah, of failing to return to university. having plotted to send him away.
On Monday, a senior UEW official also sued the university and its vice-chancellor.
Kingsley Amoakwah, an accountant by profession and President of the Union of the Senior Staff Union, seeks an order prohibiting Afful-Broni from "standing as Vice-Chancellor or performing such duties on the SSU." ".
He is also seeking an order "prohibiting Afful-Broni from continuing to interfere in the administration of Professor Mawutor Avoke, the legitimate Vice-Chancellor of the UEW".
