The "Titans" of DC have found their Jericho.
Deaf activist, artist and model Chella Man, who is transgender, plays the lead and represents the silent superhero who uses sign language to communicate with her teammates.
The man told HuffPost that Jericho had special meaning for him as a deaf person who communicates regularly using sign language.
"Jericho's main mode of communication strikes near home," said Man by e-mail. "I've rarely seen sign language grow authentically on the screen, so this incredible opportunity has made my heart grow."
"Titans" chose Man for his second season. Jericho, the son of super-hero Deathstroke villain, can own all the people with whom he is in visual contact.
The implication of the man in the series is a victory for the representation. According to the Ruderman Family Foundation, 95% of disabled characters are represented by non-disabled actors on television. The importance of his casting is not lost for him. He said it was "imperative" to call on disabled actors for disabled characters.
